Investment Income Dividends
What are Dividends?
Dividend income is money paid to you due to a surplus, benefit, or bonus on investments, such as mutual funds and companies in which you own stock.
What Paperwork Do I Need?
Most dividend income is reported on Form 1099-DIV. However, you may find dividend income on a consolidated broker’s or financial institution statement. You may not receive a Form 1099-DIV if your dividend income was less than $10.
Note: Tax-exempt interest and dividend income is usually reported on year-end statements or a statement from your broker or mutual fund company. You will not receive a Form 1099-DIV for this type of dividend.
