Best Credit Cards for Food Delivery/Takeout

Food delivery and takeout services have become increasingly popular over the past several years. So, you may be wondering what the best credit cards for food delivery and takeout are to help you maximize your credit card rewards. If you don’t have one of these credit cards, don’t stress about it too much — the difference in points value between the BEST card and another card is usually less than a dollar. So, if you don’t have one of these cards, you can feel good just using a card that gives good rewards on all purchases.

Best Credit Cards for Food Delivery/Takeout

Generally, food delivery and takeout are classified and receives the same bonuses as dining in, so it’s good to look at credit cards that receive bonuses for dining. Additionally, some credit cards specifically mention food delivery and takeout as a bonus category. There are also credit cards that give monthly bonuses for using specific food delivery or takeout companies. Here is a list of a few of the best credit cards for takeout and food delivery.

Chase Sapphire Reserve / Preferred

Chase’s two Sapphire cards both have attractive welcome offers and also offer bonuses and credits for food delivery. The Sapphire Preferred gets 2 Ultimate Rewards per dollar on all dining, while the Sapphire Reserve gets three points per dollar. They both also offer a complimentary DoorDash DashPass subscription which will get you $0 delivery fees when ordering through DoorDash. The Sapphire Reserve also gives up to $60 in DoorDash statement credits through 2021. The Chase Sapphire Preferred has a $95 annual fee and the Sapphire Reserve comes with a $550 annual fee.

American Express® Gold Card / The Platinum Card®

Similar to Chase’s Sapphire credit cards, both the American Express Gold and American Express Platinum cards offer specific ongoing benefits with food delivery companies in addition to their earning potential. Both the Gold and Platinum cards are currently offering 12 months of complimentary access to Uber Eats Pass. After your 12 months of complimentary Uber Eats Pass are up, your card will then be billed monthly. The Gold card also earns 4X Membership Rewards® Points on Restaurants worldwide, including takeout and delivery, plus, 4X points for Uber Eats purchases.

One advantage of the American Express Gold and Platinum cards is their ongoing monthly credits towards various takeout and delivery services. The Gold Card gives up to $10 in statement credits monthly when you pay with the Gold Card at Grubhub, Seamless, The Cheesecake Factory, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Boxed, and participating Shake Shack locations. This can be an annual savings of up to $120. Enrollment required. The Platinum card gives you Uber VIP status and up to $200 in Uber savings on rides or eats orders in the US annually. Uber Cash and Uber VIP status is available to Basic Card Member and Additional Centurion Cards only. These credits can be outstanding benefits if you can take advantage of them, but these cards also pack relatively high annual fees — $250 for the Gold Card and $550 for the Platinum Card. Capital One Savor Cash

The Capital One Savor Cash has a $95 annual fee as well as an attractive initial bonus offer. The Savor Cash card offers 4% cashback on dining and entertainment, which includes most delivery and takeout services. While the Savor Cash card does not have the ability to earn statement credits or rebates on delivery or takeout, the 4% cashback on dining is hard to beat.

Bank of America® Customized Cash Rewards credit card

Our final card on the list is the only one that comes with no annual fee. The Bank of America® Customized Cash Rewards credit card offers 3% cashback in one category that you can change each month. One of the eligible categories is dining, which means that you can earn up to 3% cashback in dining. Bank of America Preferred Rewards members can earn a 75% bonus on their rewards, which means that you have the potential to earn up to 5.25% back on dining each month. Keep in mind, if you choose dining as your 3% category, you’ll earn 1% cashback on all the other categories.

The Bottom Line

Choosing the best credit card for food delivery and takeout depends on a variety of different factors. Mint can help you determine how much you are spending each month on dining, takeout, and delivery. That will help you decide whether it makes sense to get a credit card that offers bonuses for dining. Otherwise, you can always just get a card that earns a good amount on all purchases. What you give up some rewards in dining may pay back in keeping your finances simple to keep track of.
